Wait times for autism assessments can vary based on your child’s age and the questions you might have about your child’s development. As your appointment day approaches, here are some things to know about your child’s autism assessment at the Center for Disabilities and Development.
What should I bring to the appointment?
- Snacks and drinks for both the patient and family members.
- Items that help your child feel comfortable in a new place (examples: favorite stuffed animal or blanket).
- Reports from any therapists or teachers.
Should my child take their medications before coming to their appointment?
- Yes. Please follow provider instructions for any prescribed medications.
What amenities are available at CDD?
- Playground: There is playground located behind the CDD out the 3rd floor Courtyard entrance.
- Disability Resource Library: The Disability Resource Library is located on our first floor, next to the main entrance. This can be a quiet space with books and toys for families between visits.
- Find information about our University of Iowa Health Care campus at their website.
Pediatric Dentistry
- Patients are able to receive a free dental screening as part of their evaluation with the University of Iowa Pediatric Dental Clinic. When arriving at the Center for Disabilities and Development, families can check in with the dental clinic in the Healy Clinic waiting room on the 2nd floor. Their team can assist with identifying a time for a dental screening.
